Trees & Sunburn
Protecting your trees from the summer heat can seem like a daunting task. If we have a difficult time withstanding the heat of Southern Utah, how can we expect our trees to survive? With the correct preparations and care, you can expect your fruit trees to do just fine.
The absolute #1 thing you can do is to protect your tree from sunburn. Trees are susceptible to the heat of the summer just like humans. You can help protect your trees simply by painting the trunk white. This helps reduce the warming of the trunk during the day by reflecting sunlight and moderates changes in the temperature of the trunk.
Simply mix one part of white outdoor water based paint with one part water thoroughly and apply from the ground up your tree about 18”.
